1. I’ll add a comment on the dress issue that I generally don’t see in this discussion.

   How you dress affects how you feel about yourself. I’m not going to say better or worse, but there is a difference (for me) in teaching in a shirt and tie, and slacks and a polo. Its not just an issue of what am I more comfortable in, but how am I most effective as a teacher.

   There are also differences in how students perceive and interact with you, and how coworkers interact with you that has to be taken into account.
