Ice Station Zebra

A big storm has coated everything in the vicinity of Chateau Steelypips with a quarter-inch of ice. Trees are coming down all over the place (a big limb smashed the gate to our back yard), and the power is out for God knows how long.

We’ve temporarily relocated to Kate’s office, which has heat and power, but I’m going to be basically incommunicado until further notice. I won’t be reading or replying to comments, so behave yourselves while I’m gone.

  1. As my mother and grandmother (who in turn got it from her grandmother) said when leaving us children in the house ‘Don’t play with fire and don’t put beans up your noses’.

Fortunately I now live in an area where freezing rain is uncommon. I hope things are soon back to normal for you.

  2. I completely understand your situation. Yesterday we got 8 inches of snow – in fraking Louisiana! No power for 15 hours, the water went out for about 4 hours because some dude ran over a fire hydrant. At least I have a small generator (because of hurricanes) so that I can power the all-important internet.

Of course, the kids had a blast (me too – except for no power).

  3. LIAR! Global Warming demands late autumns, early springs, higher temperatures overall, and planetary desiccation. The Carbon Tax on Everything should grind you into a renewable resource for proclaiming empirical reality and not deferring to vermin defining truth and morality by convenience of the moment.

Who will buy Carbon Credit arbitrageur extraordinaire Al Gore’s indulgences now?

  4. Global warming does not imply warm winters all of a sudden for everyone. Global average temperatures rise, and the changing boundary conditions everywhere cause more unconventional or in some cases more extreme local weather patterns. Notice lots of record temps set in the past couple years? I have.
