I Can Haz Books!

It’s not often that I regret having a cell phone that is just a phone, but this is one of those occasions– I stopped by my publisher today to talk about marketing and publicity, and record a video for the web, and got a stack of finished copies of the book, hot off the presses. If I had a cell phone camera, I’d post a picture, but I don’t, so you’ll have to settle for a plain-text “Woo-hoo!”

On an only vaguely related note, our cultural activities in NYC will include some college hoops, as there’s a preseason “tournament” taking place at Madison Square garden tonight. Syracuse vs. Cal, and UNC vs. Ohio State. Not a bad double bill for November basketball.

  1. Congrats on the book!

But it’s a little bit much to be gloating about all the fun you’re having in the Big Apple, when you somehow won the final exam scheduling lottery run by the Registrar, while some of your less fortunate colleagues are stuck in Schenectady holding office hours and review sessions until their final exams scheduled as late as next Tuesday afternoon! (Grrr….this is coming from someone who has gotten stuck with Tuesday afternoon before Thanksgiving in two out of the past three years! And, to add insult to injury, the college has once again seen fit to allow six of my students to depart for a New Zealand miniterm BEFORE said exam time slot, which means I have to create a second version of the exam to give them this weekend….)

Seriously….enjoy your weekend in the city!

  2. And a big WOO-HOO right back at ya! What a wonderful accomplishment; you do us proud, Chad!

On another note, we had a wonderful visit today with Steely Kid. She and Uncle Joe played some very silly games! And your dad even danced the polka with her! She is much loved!

  3. Congrats! It’s a great feeling, to be able to hold your books and see your name in print on the cover. It gets even better when you see it on the shelves in a bookstore…

But about the hoops: should I give up on my Bears? Did they look that bad, or was Syracuse just that good?

  4. Is there an Orzel effect (akin to Pauli’s effect on experiments)? Did your presence make the more highly ranked teams play poorly, or is UNC actually vulnerable this year?

  5. As I was waiting the 15 minutes for my swine flu vaccination to sink in, I entertained a bored child & her mother with the pics on my cell phone of my veterinarian’s sturdy little chihuahuas in Hallowe’en costume: the skinny one a skeleton and the fat one a pumpkin. Nerd cred!

  6. Mary, why isn’t there a scheduling system that links school-scheduled early departures with early exam slots? There must be some course that don’t post their students all over the world and they could have the later slots. If you suggest it now, the administration might have it in place in a year or two.

I think I’m missing the point here: congratulations on the new book, Chad! How did you keep SteelyKid from chewing on it?
