SteelyKid says “You know what? Bacon tastes good!”

We’ve had a hard time convincing her that anything that isn’t either 1) crunchy, or 2) goopy is food. Cooked vegetables, she’ll pick up, look at, and toss aside laughing. Cooked meat is similarly rejected. This week, though, we discovered that she’ll eat bacon, which evidently is crispy enough to overcome its Meat Nature. Also, bread is ok, probably because in addition to being yummy, it can be ripped into lots of little pieces that can be scattered all over the table.

Emmy, of course, is insanely jealous that SteelyKid gets bacon. It’s very hard to be the Queen.

  1. Lest anybody think we’re giving her bacon at bedtime, the picture was actually taken at breakfast, but I’ve only gotten around to GIMPing and posting it now. The yellow spheroids on her tray are Kix cereal, which was the first non-goop food item she ate.

Kix, bacon, and apple juice: breakfast of champions! Champion toddlers, anyway.

  2. She is one happy kid. She looks more like her dad at this angle.

When did she move from the table to her own high-chair?

  3. Totally off topic but I don’t think anyone mentioned Reed College to visit when in Portland. The only private, undergrad school with a nuclear reactor.

  4. Funny that Violet thinks she looks more like her dad, since I waltzed over here to say she looks more and more like Kate every day.

    And: BACON! BACONBACONBACONBACONBACON

  5. You really should have taped the bacon to her for the photo; previous evidence would suggest that it’s a sure ticket to a highly successful writing career.

(Well, that and talent. But mostly the bacon.)

  6. The consensus of our family is that she looks quite a lot like me (seriously, you should see my baby pictures) except that she has Chad’s smile.

Violet, that’s in the library, where we have a highchair set up so we can eat breakfast at our computers (because we’re addicts). She still likes the babypod for the dining room.
