Thursday Toddler Blogging 030311

When I told her it was Thursday, and thus time for a picture with Appa, SteelyKid sprang into action with a very definite idea of what she wanted. As a result, there’s a lot going on in this week’s Toddler Blogging photos:

This is my favorite, which was an intermediate step on the way to her final vision. To unpack it a little for you, though, we have:

First and foremost, we have a big collection of stuffed toys being carefully arranged. This is all SteelyKid– when I said I wanted a picture with Appa, she said “No, all my friends!” Then she started arranging them.

You can also see a remnant of an earlier activity in this, namely the huge number of sticker stuck on the right-hand side of the couch. We picked those up for her over the weekend– a bunch of letters and numbers in all different colors and typefaces. At one point on Sunday, Kate had 21 different stickers stuck on her shirt. After some coaxing, we got them transferred to the couch, where they have remained since.

A historical note: the quilted blanket on the back of the couch is mine from when I was a little kid– my Aunt Norma made it when I was a baby. My mom had saved it, and brought it up late last year.

The best part of this, though, is SteelyKid’s pose. She’s just positioned the bird (a stuffed parrot based on one in a Dr. Seuss book, whose name is supposed to be “Hooey,” I think, but who she tends to call “Phooey,” because that’s what he says) for the picture, but stopped to have a little conversation with it. As best I can remember, this went:

“You want a bottle? No? Oh, you a big boy, you don’t drink bottles.”

I think she was in the process of shaking the parrot’s head back and forth when I took this one.

So, what was her grand artistic vision, you ask? This:

Well, I suspect her vision really was just a picture of all her friends, because she refused to move any closer to them, but you get the idea.
